Situation
The University of Alabama brought together faculty, researchers, and staff whose experience with AI ranged from daily use to first exposure. Departments were experimenting independently, with little shared language around what the tools could do, where they fell short, and how institutional expectations around privacy, ethics, and academic integrity applied to everyday work.
Partnership Focus
The university engaged LearnAIR™ to establish shared AI foundations across the cohort - core concepts, large language models, prompting, tools, and responsible use - while keeping every session anchored to the work participants were actually doing. Rather than a generic overview, the program was built to translate AI capability into research, administrative, and operational practice.
Solution
LearnAIR™ connected training to practical workflows including literature review, grant development, data synthesis, report writing, project management, and knowledge work. Participants moved beyond basic prompting into assistants, custom GPTs, digital teammates, agents, and human-centered workflow design, with direct attention to verification, privacy, hallucinations, institutional constraints, ethics, and where human accountability must remain in the loop.
Impact
The cohort left with a common model for responsible, applied AI and created strong demand for deeper hands-on building, troubleshooting, and applied AI work. The engagement also expanded the conversation from one-time training into AI literacy measurement, adoption tracking, and potential research collaboration.
Looking Ahead
The University of Alabama now has a working higher-education model for moving multidisciplinary teams from AI awareness to responsible, practical application - a foundation that can scale across departments as tools, policy, and research needs continue to evolve.
